Can Specific diets boost Fertility?
Historically people have turned to specific cultural foods and practices for healing ailments or disease but what about using foods to boost fertility and increase your chances of getting pregnant? While no studies prove a direct correlation between specific foods and fertility outcomes, respected research such as the 2007 Harvard study saw a boost in fertility among women suffering from ovulatory dysfunction, an infertility culprit in about 20% of cases. By adopting the tenets of what they called "the fertility diet', 66% of ovulatory issues improved. More current studies identified specific nutrients within foods rather than the foods themselves that can support fertility support such as Folic Acid, Vitamin B12, Omega 3 fatty acids and a whole foods based diet balanced with proteins, fruits vegetables and grains. Antioxidants have also proven beneficial in sperm motility and function issues which can be a cause of infertility in about 30% of cases.
